Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy also known as essential oil therapy is a holistic treating practice that uses natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant (i.e. the essence) to promote health and well-being including psychological and emotional well-being.

Aromatherapy and the use of essential oils for medicinal purposes have been used by ancient cultures in China, India, Egypt for thousands of years. The actual term "aromatheraphy" did not come into the existence until the 20th century. The French perfumer and chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé used it in a book in 1937 about the healing potential of lavender in treating burns and the use of other essential oils in treating medical conditions.

Inhaling aroma from these natural oils is known to improve the health of the mind, body, and spirit. Inhaling the aromatic essence is known to stimulate brain function.
