Are You Living An Impactful Life?

Are you engaging in life or just going through the motions? Believe me, I know life gets busy and I understand how easy it is to get into a rut where you go through the motions of living day-to-day. This is why it's so important to be intentional and conscious about your life and how you live. Les Brown said it well, “If you go through life being casual, you will end up a casualty.”

Do you want more out of life than daily routines that do not lead to anything new or purposeful? Do believe you have more to offer? Do you want more meaning and different outcomes in your life? Do you have a deep desire to launch a business, solve a social or environmental problem, to express a side of yourself, to do more than you are currently doing? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, than I suggest you start living with intention. Stop spending your time and start investing it!

Everyday I make it a point to invest time in my vision. It’s how I created the I M Enterprise of over 100 brands and I get to work with different people doing diverse things. I believe I still have more potential and capability to do more. Is it challenging? YES! Does it require sacrifice? Absolutely! Have I failed? Many times if I viewed it as failing. I have been to Hell and back more once and passed by some people standing in the same spot doing the same thing. If that was me, I would sell water to people returning from Hell cause I know they are probably thirsty. Doing nothing or accepting the status quo has never been my approach. My intent has always been to make my life meaningful and impactful.

In school, did you willingly sit in the back of your classes or lectures hoping not to be noticed? Did you put your head down hoping not to be called to answer a question or participate? It is highly likely you are exhibiting the same behavior in some manner in your life now unless you intentionally changed yourself. I had to wear glasses as a young child which I didn’t like to wear so I had to sit up front if I wanted to see the board. It established the habit of choosing to sit up front which I still do today and it has served me well in different ways. One way is I learned to be prepared because I knew there was a high probability that I might be called to participate. An impactful life demands participation. After all life is not a spectator sport!

Living life on purpose with a vision and mission is not for the faint hearted which is a reason so many people choose to live like an ostrich; to bury their heads in their television, digital devices, or useless conversations; to hide behind a facade of “busyness” absent of productivity and impact.

Starting today, right now commit to engaging in life. Say, “I am ready to live an impactful life!” Write it down. Begin by leveraging the power of “Yes”, “No”, and “Yet” to up your game of living an impactful life. This small action can make a huge difference in your life. Say “yes” to opportunities to participate or challenge yourself. Show up as often as you can and participate as much as you can. Put yourself in a position to be called on. Engage in activities that have meaning and purpose. Don’t worry about failing. It is a matter of perspective anyway. Say “no” to things or requests that do not move you closer to accomplishing your goals and desires. You may even have to say “no” to people in your life. This might disappoint a few people or even hurt some feelings. They will get over it. This is about you transforming the trajectory of your life. It is about optimizing your time. Saying “no” makes room for the things and people you need to say “yes” to. Lastly, learn to say “yet” to productive and positive things you haven’t done or learned how to do…yet. This is key for achieving a growth mindset. Having a growth mindset with lead you to develop and expand your abilities. A growth mindset makes the status quo, comfotability, and complaceny enemies.

There is a bit more to transforming your life but this is a good start. If you want to live an unimaginable impactful life consider living a life that positively impacts others. Life is a beautiful thing. Make it count.

P.S. I heard these words the other day, “A job is what you get paid for. Your purpose is what you are made for.” Do you know what you are made for and made of?
